ICB Prayer Bible {FrontGate Review}

February 27, 2018 by Dana

We were gifted the ICB Prayer Bible by FrontGate Media a little while back in exchange for review.  When I agreed to this review, I had no idea how beautifully designed this Bible would be.  Y’all, when I say it’s gorgeous, it’s GORGEOUS!

The Bible is a beautiful light pink with gold stamped flowers in a ring pattern, and The Prayer Bible written in the same lovely gold.  What you don’t see in the image above is the beautiful irradescent sparkle that is splashed throughout the pattern of circles and dots on the image above.

This is an International Children’s Bible meaning it’s written in a format that children can understand and it can be used internationally with children from all over the world.  What a GREAT thing?!  Sharing God’s Word through this beautiful Bible with children from all over the world.

This precious full size Bible reminds me of the ones from my childhood.  It is designed with pages of quotes and scriptures inside.  The design shared on the front of the Bible is continued in the pages throughout the Bible itself.

There are also questions and answers shared throughout the Bible to help teach your child the importance of what they are reading and further open the discussion for your family.  This is a great way to grow and share together.  We loved these sections that were placed throughout the ICB Prayer Bible.

As a bonus, this Bible included a Prayer Journal that is a separate booklet from the Bible itself.  This is a great way to begin teaching your child to pray for others as well as learn to write prayers.  Fill it with your child’s own special prayers.

This beautiful ICB Prayer Bible in pink from Tommy Nelson is available for $22.99.  You’re little girl will love it.  There’s also an adorable boy’s version of the ICB Prayer Bible available in blue for purchase as well.

You can view a sample of the ICB Prayer Bible and find out about a special discount by visiting:

Imagine… The Great Flood {Crew Review}

September 28, 2017 by Dana

Have you ever sat down and thought about the various stories from the Bible?  Have you ever imagined you were really there in the moment the stories happened?  Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be swallowed by a fish, to feel the flame from the burning bush or to be engulfed by a huge wave as the Earth flooded?  Barbour Publishing presents IMAGINE… The Great Flood.
Matt Koceich has written a tale like none I’ve read before.  A first person account of the greatest flood ever known to man.  Corey, a ten year old boy, is completely engulfed by a huge wave of water.  He can’t breath, can’t fight against the waves, can’t pull himself free of the waves.  Suddenly, he feels unseen hands grabbing him.  And that’s all he really remembers.
When Corey awakens he is finds not one, but TWO lions in front of him!  Can you imagine his fear, shock and surprise?!  I know I would have been.
In Imagine… The Great Flood the story of Noah and his Ark comes to life.  You get to experience Corey’s adventure first hand in this short, yet exciting novel.  Part one of a new series, bringing the Bible to life for readers ages 8-12.  Helping you to understand what life would really be like if you were to live through a monumental event like those that only God could create.
How We Used It:
We read this one aloud together, though since we were moving I allowed Emmalee to read it to the Littles more than I read.  They really enjoyed the story, how it was written and how it came to life thanks to the wonderful author.  We can hardly wait to read the next book in the series when it releases in 2018.
Where You Can Buy:

You can buy Imagine… The Great Flood from Barbour Publishing for $4.49.  This is an awesome deal for this great little book.

Armed With Truth Temporary Tattoos {FrontGate Review}

May 10, 2017 by Dana

For this review, we were sent some goodies from Armed With Truth.  Armed With Truth provides quality temporary scripture tattoos that are safe and non-toxic.  You can share and wear the word simply by placing on one of their many tattoo designs.

For this review, we chose the Comforted collection from the Verse Ten Pack Tattoos collection and the Grace Tattoo by Patrick Maxcy from the Designer Tattoo collection.  All of the temporary tattoos were well designed and easy to apply.  You simply peel off the plastic cover, place against your skin or wherever you’d like to place these, and  then place a wet cloth (I used a napkin) to saturate so they peel off with ease.

These tattoos last 3-5 days.  I placed mine on my hand though and found it only last me 2 days because of frequent hand washing.  The second time I tried them I placed them further up my arm with better results.  They lasted four days that time.

My children also liked these tattoos.  They enjoyed the verses shared by them.  It was a great way to spread and share the word with others.

Our set contained verses from Psalms and other comforting verses from the Bible.  There were tattoos with longer and shorter verses.  All of the tattoos were encouraging.

From the Designer collection, we received the Grace tattoo.  I loved this one!  It features the wing of an angel, much like my personal wing tattoo I have on my back.  They were small size wise but great for a shoulder or upper arm.  I chose this image because of my love of Angel wings and the strength they show.  Grace brought that same feeling to me when I saw it and when I wore it as well.

You can purchase your very own set of temporary tattoos in a style that fits you from Armed With Truth for $10.99 for the Verse Ten Packs or $4.99 for the Designer Collection.  With any Verse Ten Pack Collection, you receive ten temporary tattoos.  With any Designer Collection tattoo set you receive two tattoos in the design requested.

For our readers, Armed With Truth is offering a 20% off coupon if you use the code luvnlambert at checkout.

Planet 316: Daily Bible Jigsaw {Crew Review}

April 24, 2017 by Dana

From Planet 316 comes the Daily Bible Jigsaw.  This is a free app on Apple iOS, Google Play or Facebook.  Let me tell you, it is TONS of fun!
After you chose your format and method of play (mine was Apple iOS) and get it downloaded, you will be taken to a log-in page to create your username and password.  This is easily and quickly done.  The the fun really starts.
There is one new puzzle a day.  Each puzzle you complete gives you extra coins.  You get coin bonuses for completing quickly.  I was slow do I did not get a lot of extra coins myself.
Each puzzle is inspirational and beautifully designed.  One of my favorites was a picture of flowers with a beautiful butterfly featured on it and a quote.  It took me a while to complete it but it was great fun.  There were lots of pieces to put together and honestly I’m just not good at putting these things together but still I did it.
On the iPad app, which I used for this game, you can press on the puzzle pieces with your fingers to slide them to the side or place them into the puzzle.  I, personally, placed all puzzle pieces onto the side, then worked on the edges.  These are the pieces with one flat side.  Once I found two pieces that matched, they’d link to one another and connect.  Once the outside of the puzzle was built, I would then work on the inner parts of the puzzle.  When you finish, the puzzle then magically digitally comes to life and the inspirational quote appears.  This is a Christian app so all messages are Biblical and Christian based.
As a bonus for reviewing this item, Planet 316 gifted us each a 500 Puzzle Coins Bundle, which is a $39.99 value, for free for additional play time.  These coins allowed us to buy extra puzzles.  As I mentioned, you get one puzzle a day.  There’s a calendar which shows each day for the month.  Completed puzzles show here as well as ones you may have missed in the month.  You can purchase the missed puzzles for a small fee.
Mostly I played this app, though my kids did play a few times.  Laycie liked it.  Emmalee loved it.  They were faster than me at playing it.  It is a great family game to play with your younger child as well.  It is a lot of fun to share with one another.
You can find the Daily Bible Jigsaw app or game in the following places online:

What Homeschooling Is Like For Us {Homeschooling} {Epilepsy Awareness}

April 18, 2017 by Dana

5 Days of Homeschooling with Epilepsy and Other Issues:
What Homeschooling Is Like For Us

One of the BEST things about Homeschooling is that you can make it work for you!  You don’t need to follow anyone else’s schedule.  You don’t need to do Public School at Home.  You simply do what’s best for you and your family.

Homeschooling for us varies throughout the year.  Because our schedule is usually crazy with appointments at different times of the day, we have had to learn to adapt things to fit around this.  We homeschool year round, which means when the public school kids are at home, we’re usually still having school.

We’re also pretty eclectic educationally which fits right in with the Homeschool Review Crew since we never know ahead which vendors we will be selected to review and which we won’t.  We’ve been blessed to be selected for many wonderful items over the years while being a part of the crew and these items have easily been adapted to fit our homeschooling because of our personal style.

We also tend to use materials that allow us to work together as a family instead of individually which can take a ton of time.  Things like Apologia for science, unit studies by Amanda Bennett, Apologia for Biblical Studies and Story of the World for history have helped us to have a well-rounded educational experience while allowing us to adapt to the challenges our health issues present.

Unit studies have been a huge blessing because it allows us to often work through subjects of interest instead of following a more formal plan.  Many field trips end out our studies to give that hands-on experience my children crave.  This is just a fun bonus for all of us.

As you’ve probably guessed, we don’t follow a strict schedule.  I feel that learning is most important, not meeting a timeline that my children may not necessarily be ready for.  I enjoy watching their little faces when they truly learn something that speaks loudly to their hearts.  This is the method we’ve used for years and greatly enjoy following.

This is just a small glimpse into our homeschooling life.  We hope you’ve enjoyed it and look forward to sharing more with you!  Next up is Homeschooling On The Down Days.

Blessings,
Dana Lambert-Hodge

Shepherd, Potter, Spy and the Star Namer {Crew Review}

April 6, 2017 by Dana

What We Received:
For this review, we were sent the beautiful paperback novel Shepherd, Potter, Spy and the Star Namer from Peggy Consolver – Author.  Peggy is a wonderful author and sweet Christian lady who felt led to share the story of the Gibeonites with us all.  The story she tells takes us back to a time many of us struggle to understand but she’s able to weave the story so we can see the past we often wonder about.
About The Book:
Have you ever wondered about the historical information that is shared throughout the Bible?  Have you ever wished to know what life was really like for many of the people mentioned?  Have you wondered how they lived, where they trod, even what their flocks were like?  Through Shepherd, Potter, Spy and the Star Namer, Peggy Consolver has done her best to help us better understand the plight of the Gibeonite people as they lived day to day.
Shepherd, Potter, Spy and the Star Namer by Peggy Miracle Consolver tells the story of the Gibeonite people.  The story is centered around a young shepherd boy named Keshub.  Keshub fights hard to keep his flock and his people safe from harm.  He longs for adventure outside of the grazing lands, to be someone more than he is.  He eventually finds the adventure he seeks and becomes a spy who keeps watch over the Hebrews as they move through the Jordan Valley.
This book shares many specific details to the time period and the detail of life of the people.  Peggy Consolver did her research thoroughly as she wrote this story.  Though the story of Keshub is fictional, it’s still based in Truth from scripture and archeological research.  This story speaks life to a people who struggled to live.
Additional Learning:
Peggy Consolver has shared part of her website to help expand the lessons behind Shepherd, Potter, Spy and Star Namer.  She has created a study guide which can be used with the book to expand on the information within the pages of the book.  She has provided access to maps specifically for the time period discussed in the book.  She has also provided links to information, videos to help expand on the archeological details covered within the book, and more.  This is a great little guide to really help bring the book to life.
Where You Can Buy This Book:
Shepherd, Potter, Spy and the Star Namer is available through Amazon for $10.14 at time of this posting.  It is also available at Barnes and Nobles, Mardel’s Christian Book Stores and “wherever fine books are sold”.

You Can Find Peggy Consolver on Social Media:
