Faith

February 23, 2010 by Dana

I am blessed by God.

Simply and wonderfully, I am blessed by God.

A few months ago, I would never have guessed that I would be where I am now.  Happier than ever, walking in God’s light and love.

A few months ago, my children were still living with my ex and my Mom in Spartanburg.  I did not know if I’d ever see their sweet faces again.  I didn’t know if I’d ever kiss them or hold their little hands, tuck them into bed or play with them again.  Each day I prayed that God would see fit to place us back together again.

A few months ago, I was alone.  I had no one.  No one that is, except God.  He was with me.  He was always there, walking beside me, at times carrying me through.  I did not know where he was leading me but I followed His path, guided by His hand, through my trials.

A few months ago, I had only a mustard seed of Faith, and that mustard seed was the smallest of seeds there could have possibly been.  But I held onto that Faith and I didn’t let go, like a child holding onto her father’s finger.

I prayed.  I turned towards God.  At times, I turned away but He and His immense Love always led me back when I strayed.  My Father was always there guiding me, showing me His path.

Today, I’m here, where he wanted me to be.

Today, I have my beautiful babies again.

Today, I am homeschooling them again.

Today, I am finding myself and I am finding that I have never been happier than I am at this moment.

God knew all along where he was leading me.  He placed me onto His path, time and time again.  He led me forth, through trials that made me stronger and molded me into the person that He wanted me to become.

God has blessed me, time and again.  He has shown me His Love.  My Faith in Him has grown and has brought me more love than I could have ever imagined.  I am thankful, truly thankful for all the blessings I have been given.

Simply and wonderfully, I am BLESSED by God.

Homeschooling Again {First Day of Homechooling: February 2010}

February 20, 2010 by Dana

Last week we began homeschooling again.

My oldest two had been attending a local public school but it just wasn’t working out for us.  My son was falling farther and farther behind in his reading and other educational skills and my daughter was not working up to her potential in Kindergarten.  Her skills were much more advanced then her classes were offering her.  So we decided the best thing to do was homeschool again.

A couple of weeks ago, I contacted our local homeschooling organization and enrolled the kids for homeschooling.  It took a few weeks to iron out our details and have the extra cash for our fees but as soon as we did, we were ready to go.

My information was officially approved this past Monday.  On Tuesday, I informed the school of our decision to homeschool and also told them that would be my children’s last day attending their school.  On Wednesday, we were home and ready to begin, but because it was Emmalee’s birthday and we had a ton of company coming in and out we skipped school this day.

Thursday was our first official day of homeschooling.  It was a relatively simple day.  We managed to cover all the basic subjects and we set up a schedule to work each day.

Our day starts with breakfast.
Next comes devotions.  We read a daily devotional online using CBH Ministries, Key’s for Kids, then we write the verse of the day as our copywork for handwriting skills.  While we are writing, we listen to a Christian Children’s Radio show online using OnePlace.org.
After devotions is Grammar, using Scott Foresman’s Grammar books.  The kids really enjoy this workbook.
Next the kids do reading online for 30 minutes using Starfall.com.  They do a few other online activities dealing with reading at this time too.
Next we do Scott Foresman Math, then science.
Finally we do Social Studies, using Lesson Pathways online.  Each day provides us with new activities to use.

We have tweaked this schedule a little, adding more worksheets and also adding a Bible curriculum starting with Creation for History.  Each day we discuss a new section of the bible in an explaination of where the world began.

The kids are enjoying being home again.  They love the ease of learning at their own pace.  They are working together well.  Our only obstacle at this time is occupying a whily toddler!  We look forward to many more days homeschooling and daily growing in our love of God and our learning to come.

Snow in 2010

February 13, 2010 by Dana

So far 2010 has been full of surprises.

The biggest for me thus far is SNOW in Georgetown.  We are so close to the water that normally we would not even see snow here.  But since my little Emma has been sad to know that they had snow in Spartanburg, I would like to think God granted her white wonderland wishes and gave her some of the good stuff to play in.

The kids were very excited to look out their window earlier and see the fat little blogs of ice floating downwards from the sky.  They were even happier when they realized that it was indeed going to stick and coat everything in it’s wet fuzzy wonderness.  They patiently watched and waited.  They ran everytime I called them from the back door to see the fluffy goodness from heaven.

They were even more excited when I told them to don their boots and head out in the stuff around 7pm.  They ran and played and felt the drops fall down onto their skin.  They caught flakes with their tongues.  They scooped snow off the van.  They made snowballs and started a war.  They complained about the wonderful coldness of it all but they LOVED it none the less.  A viable science lesson provided by God.

Then they came back inside to lay on the floor in front of the fire and watch a movie until bedtime.  They were anxious for sleep because they know with the dawn comes more outdoor fun in the Wintery Wonderland God has blessed us with outside.  Tomorrow brings snow fights and snow cream, melting flakes and Snowmen.

But for now, it’s goodnite and sweet dreams for the February Snow of 2010.

A Decade of Thanks {2000-2010}

January 4, 2010 by Dana

I started this blog post yesterday but was not able to finish because my littlest little was not feeling well.

My inspiration for this came from many sources.  The one source that I found the most inspiring was Marsha’s blog over at Taste and See God’s Goodness.  The blog entitled Saying Goodbye to a Decade speaks of just that and reminds us all of the wonderous events that can happen in 10 short years.

As I look back over the past 10 years, I see many things to be thankful for.

  • The birth of my three wonderful children: Winston in 2000, Emmalee in 2003 and Laycie in 2008.
  • Being lead to homeschool my children through the love and word of God.
  • Finding God and Jesus and choosing to allow them to become part of my life, admist all of the chaos.
  • Learning to appreciate the small moments in my life and all that God has provided me with.
  • Reconnecting with my family on my Dad’s side.
  • Our country’s survival of the attacks on 9/11/2001.
  • My survival of two car accidents in ’04.
  • and soooo much more!

I can hardly believe that 10 years have passed since the Millenium came.  So much has happened and so many changes and blessings have occurred.  It’s a blessing to be able to look back and see all of those things, all the trials and tribulations we have made it through and all of the good memories we have to last for decades to come.  I pray that this decade is as much of a blessing as the last one has been!
