I Can Study Jonah And Ruth {Crew Review}

August 7, 2017 by Dana

Did you guys know that Greek ‘N’ Stuff carries more than just Greek products to learn with?  Have you been in search of a great bible study to use with your children at home?  Look no further!  I Can Study Jonah & Ruth Alone With God Bible Study in the NIV version by Karen Mohs is amazing!
Honestly y’all, I did not realize just how great this 13 week Bible study was going to be for me and my family.  The study is designed to be used by one student but at $8.95 it’s more than affordable to purchase as many as you need in your home or homeschool.  It’s really good stuff, y’all.
The front of the book has a short parent guide included which prepares you for using this study with your student at home.  It’s short and simple but covers all you need to know in 100 words or less.  This study is really easy to put to use and learn with.
Lessons 1-5 cover the story of Jonah which worked well for us since we were using another curriculum that also covered Jonah’s story to teach diligence in our home and life.  My kids are very familiar with Jonah’s story.  You can’t pass up a story of a big fish when you live with a bunch of fishermen and fish lovers!
This study goes more into depth than your usual stories though.  Each lesson breaks the verses down for each day.  You begin with prayer.  Then you read the verse that you are learning for that day.  There are lots of particular questions that are asked to really get to the heart of the verse your covering.  There’s even an explanation as to why we should do daily devotions.  At the end of the week, there’s a box called “Think and Pray About It”.  This helps to enforce what you’ve been learning all week before moving forward to learn more.
This study covers Jonah in the first five lessons and Ruth in the last lessons.  It takes you slowly through the lessons really allowing you to dissect and learn what the verses mean.  This is also a great way to learn to study the Bible on your own, showing you how to ask questions to deduct meaning and relating the verse to it’s true meaning.  What you learn through this study can be used with so many other things as well.
This Bible Study is meant to be used by one student but we used it for our family by simply using it as a discussion guide together.  We prayed together.  We read the verse together – I wrote the verse on our dry erase board each day along with the questions.  I then allowed the kids to answer the Bible Study questions together.  They then wrote the Verse, the questions and their answers out for copywork.  This was a great way to learn the Bible together as a family and to build skills needed for learning more about the Bible.  For my 4 year old, I printed coloring pages for him to do on Jonah and Ruth as we worked.  Fishie Boy loves Jonah.
You can find I Can Study Jonah & Ruth Alone With God Bible Study in NIV and in KJV from Greek ‘N’ Stuff for $8.95.  There is a sample page available on the website as well.  There are many other Bible Studies also available along with many other amazing products for your homeschool.

    God Loves Mommy & Me {FrontGate Review}

    April 24, 2017 by Dana

    God Loves Mommy & Me is a beautifully written and designed book for young children.  Bonnie Rickner Jensen has gone beyond to share the story of God’s Love for us and our children.  Laura Watkins has created some of the most beautiful images that truly speak to your heart.
    God Loves Mommy & Me is a soft cover board book designed to be easy to hold and read together.  The pages are glossy and easy to clean but thick enough for your little one to be able to easily turn the pages.  Each page features the beautiful artwork of Laura Watkins, sharing the Mommy and Baby Rabbits and how God loves them no matter what they do.
    This book teaches forgiveness, prayer and love from morning to night.  My children and I truly loved the imagery and story shared within this book.  It was easy for us to relate to the loving moments and discuss how Baby and Mommy Rabbit felt.
    You can purchase your own copy of God Loves Mommy & Me online for $7.54.

    You can join in with the Harper Collins Children’s Books Giveaway for this book as well.

    The Beginner’s Bible from Zonderkidz {Crew Review}

    January 5, 2017 by Dana

    The Beginner's Bible {Zonderkidz}
    The Beginner's Bible {Zonderkidz}

    For those who may have missed my announcement on Facebook last month, I’m happy to announce that I’ve rejoined the Homeschool Review Crew, a division of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.   I’ve greatly missed the crew, the amazing products, wonderful vendors and I’ve especially missed being able to share such wonderful products with you.  So without further interruption, let’s get started with the first of many awesome products I’ll be reviewing this year and sharing here on the blog:

    The Beginner’s Bible from Zonderkidz!

    About the Review:
    Zondervan is a company that has blessed our home for many years now.  Zonderkidz is the kid’s department for Zondervan which provides quality educational and Biblical materials to use with your family at home.  We have used and loved many of their products in our home for at least 16 years now, since the birth of my oldest son.  So when the opportunity came to review The Beginner’s Bible from Zonderkidz, I immediately knew this was a review that I wanted to do.

    About the Book:
    The Beginner’s Bible is a story Bible that is filled with wonderful imagery.  It includes 90 different Bible stories written for children to comprehend.

    This is a Bible meant for small children, ages 6 and under who are just learning to read or who need help reading.  It’s a wonderful read-aloud book or book to read with your child.  It is definitely one of our family favorites.

    The Beginner’s Bible was first released in 1989 and has sold over 25 million products.  To me, that’s an amazing number.  27 years later, this wonderful Bible is still a wonderful addition to any family’s library.

    Recently, Zonderkidz updated The Beginner’s Bible to include new 3D full color illustrations in bright vibrant colors.  This really makes the stories come to life.  The images really pop off the pages with this new artwork style.

    The Beginner’s Bible also features large, easy to read font.  This is perfect for younger children who often become anxious with smaller print.  It wasn’t too bad for this Momma either, as sometimes reading stories in small print can be hard to keep up with when you’re holding a small child.

    The Beginner’s Bible is 512 pages in length.  These pages are now glossy whereas the older versions of The Beginner’s Bible had matte paper pages, which is sometimes difficult to keep clean with small hands.  The pages are still paper but the glossy finish does allow for light wiping that could not be managed before.  This was a change that I was happy to see!

     Included in the front of The Beginner’s Bible is a Dedication page where you can write in your child’s name so they know this Bible is just for them.  There is also a Table of Contents included behind the Dedication page to help you locate favorite Bible stories.

     The first part of the book begins in the Old Testament just like an adult Bible would, starting with Genesis’ The Beginning and ending with Jonah and the Big Fish.  The New Testament is also included, beginning with An Angel Visits Mary and ending with Jesus Is Coming!  At the very back of the book there is also included a brief dictionary to help explain some of the important Biblical words your child may not know.

    How We Used The Product In Our Home:
    The Beginner’s Bible was easily adapted into our family’s day to day routine.  I’m lucky to have two little readers who enjoy looking at pictures and discussing what they see.  They enjoy reading Bible stories so they were very excited to have a new copy of The Beginner’s Bible to share and read together.

    We read our copy of The Beginner’s Bible as a bed-time story to start out but that didn’t last long, as both my younger children begged to hear more throughout the day.  They also requested on several times to have their siblings read to them, which is great practice for the older two in reading aloud.  We found this book quickly became an important part of our day to day.

    Jack really loved this BIG FISH!

    With Jackson, who is four and just learning that letters make words and words have meaning, we sat together and looked over many of the pictures inside The Beginner’s Bible one on one.  We also read some of the stories, varied throughout the book as he choose which ones interested him the most.  We discussed who Jesus was and is after finding his picture on the last story page of the book.  But overall, Jack’s favorite story was Jonah and the Big Fish because Jack’s world is all about fish and dinosaurs right now.  He loves all fish stories so I was thrilled to share this one with him.

    With Laycie, who is 8 but mildly delayed in her learning due to her health, we read our copy of The Beginner’s Bible together.  She chose to read more of the book in order, as she prefers things to follow from beginning to end.  She read the words she knew and I helped her decipher many of the words she didn’t know.  We discussed the images that went along with the stories, taking note of the importance in each image that went along with each story we read.  She really loved all the stories and didn’t have an absolute favorite.

    I often found her with our copy of The Beginner’s Bible, reading it to her dolls and sharing God’s word with her siblings when we weren’t reading it together.  This warmed my heart to know how special The Beginner’s Bible became to her so quickly.  I know it will continue to do so in the future.

    A is for Apples {Blogging Through The Alphabet}

    April 28, 2014 by Dana

    I’ve heard lots about Blogging Through The Alphabet from Marcy @ BenandMe.com and others who have joined in the past.  It sounded like a lot of fun and since I am often struggling to come up with my own ideas for blogging weekly, it sounded exactly like something I need to join in with.  Win, win, win!  So here goes…

    Ben and Me

    A is for Apples

    Apples are pretty important in our house.  They are one of Laycie’s absolute favorite things.  She loves to eat them but even more, she loves to collect different collectible apples.

    We have glass apples, apple signs, apple drawings and more.   At one point the kitchen curtains were even red to match her beautiful apples which I have managed to contain mostly in our kitchen.  She sure loves those apples!

    When Laycie was first learning to talk, she struggled with saying the word “apple”.  She would say “Bapple” instead.  Completely adorable!  I found it so adorable that I actually called my first iPhone Bapple for my Laycie-Lou.  She loved that!

    Sadly, I admit that her love of Apples has also encouraged me to buy iPhones and iPads, silly as that is.  I love to see the smile on her face from each apple she finds, even the little silver one on the back of my phone.  I’d do anything to see her precious smile.

    Are their things in your home that you find yourself collecting because of your children?  Do your rooms reflect their loves as well as their own?  Share with me if you wish.

    KinderBach {Crew Review}

    February 27, 2014 by Dana

    KinderBach is a program designed to allow music via piano lessons into the a simple home setting.  Designed for younger children around ages 3-7, KinderBach makes learning music fun.  This simple, low cost program is easy to use by everyone.
    The KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner is a complete piano music curriculum.  Parental involvement in the program depends on your child’s ability to learn.  Children who are able to view the videos on their own will need less involvement from a parent than those who are younger and less skilled in learning.
    Since this is a full curriculum, it includes video instruction to show children how to use the piano through online lessons.  It also includes worksheets to be completed which bring the lessons offline and into their daily life for practice and learning without a computer.  A piano is also needed to provide correct instruction on playing this wonderful instrument.
    The KinderBach curriculum contains 7 complete levels, each covering different aspects of Piano lessons.  Reading, Writing and Arithmetic are also covered as children work through their lessons while using this program.  Learning to read symbols, decoding, learning to identify right and left, coordination, control, as well as rhythm and sequencing are all learned throughout the lessons provided through using KinderBach for music lessons.
    The video lessons used in KinderBach are short but fun.  They capture the child’s attention while teaching them important skills.  They also help to build fine motor function as children follow along and practice what they are learning in the program.
    The worksheets that are used to bring the program off the computer and into real life for the child are also fun, while at the same time they provide a solid learning foundation to help the child further the skills learned online while watching the lesson videos.  These worksheets give the child concrete evidence of learning and help encourage building their musical skills, helping them to gain confidence in their lessons as they learn.
    KinderBach offers a free trial of their award winning program for the first few lessons which can be located directly on their website.  There is also a NO RISK 30 day Money Back Guarantee for this program.
    Though we used the KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner for home, there is also a Classroom version perfect for co-ops and schools to use.  KinderBach is for use with children who are ages 3-7 as I mentioned above.  My Laycie was the perfect age for using it at 5 years old.
    We have been using KinderBach in our home for about 2 years now and we still love it.  Laycie began using it when she just turned 4 – she turns 6 in April and has been using it off and on.  Emma has also used the program and helped Laycie with some of the lessons.  Both girls enjoy the adorable characters and the simple instructions provided through the program very much.  This is something we use several times a week, allowing them to work at their own pace during lessons but it’s not something that we push for learning.  It’s just a really fun program that we keep coming back to as an extracurricular activity for all of us.
     I’m kind of anxious for Jackson to become old enough to use it.  At 17 months, he enjoys watching the videos as well but he’s a little too young yet to gain anything from the other parts of the program.  He isn’t old enough to know how to use the piano or remember key placement or count timing.  Laycie on the other hand loves doing all of those things and has really enjoyed learning them.
    A membership to the KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner is available for one year for a special limited time price of $95.88.  It’s normally priced at $130 per year for the program.
    A membership to the KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner gives you access to over 240 sessions in lessons by computer, iPad, and more.  You will also receive access to the lesson PDF’s to print and use at home.  Teacher’s Corner is included with this membership, allowing you access to the Audio MP3’s for each lesson and all materials for Levels 1-6 of the KinderBach program.  Downloads for the lesson story books, song books and coloring pages are also included with your one year membership to KinderBach.  This complete curriculum package provides you with everything needed for one year of learning Piano and Music from KinderBach.
