The Essence of Courage {Celebrate Lit Review}

April 30, 2018 by Dana

The Essence of Courageby Lynn U. Watson

The Essence of Courage by Lynn U. Watson is a devotional experience like no other before it. Lynn combines her love of the Lord, her love of Essential Oils and herbs, with her love of stories and writing to create a story-book devotional that truly speaks to your heart. This book is just amazing and one I have truly enjoyed.

The Essence of Courage is the first of a series of devotional books created to educate and share about God’s love for us, diving deep into the stories within Solomon’s locked Garden. Lynn creates lovable characters based on the Fruits of the Spirit shared within the Bible itself. Essences of these strong women, who though sometimes unnamed, their stories speak out like no other.

She also includes fun facts about essential oils and spices that go along with these stories, educating you even more as you read and learn. You learn how to use these oils to relax and inspire yourself each day, helping you to remember the Fruits in your day to day life. Learning with this devotional is an experience you definitely won’t want to miss.

Each chapter shares stories of Cinnamah-Brosia and her friends. To begin there are suggested oils and herbs to use to encourage you. Their aromatic influence is described. A suggested Daily Delight is mentioned, along with some musical suggestions to inspire you. Then the day’s verse is shared, followed by an inspiring story that ends with another inspiring scripture.

You will greatly enjoy this fun devotional from Lynn U. Watson. Her encouragement is inspiring. You can grab your copy online for $14.99 in Paperback or $3.99 on Kindle.

Enfolded In God’s Arms {Christian Women’s Affiliate Review}

Enfolded In God’s Arms
40 Reflections to Embrace Your Inner Healing
By Lisa Are Wulf

I’m often looking at devotionals to help me center my daily focus and bring God to the forefront so I was pretty excited to find this book among the reviews available through Christian Women’s Affiliate.  Enfolded In God’s Arms: 40 Reflections to Embrace Your Inner Healing by Lisa Are Wulf is a wonderful collection of well written reflections that truly help get your heart into the right place.

The reflections are short,  yet  thought provoking.  They begin with a scripture to reflect upon as you read the devotion.  The devotion is a short thoughtful story that helps you to relate to the scripture.  You end the devotion with another scripture, also fitting with the daily devotion.

This is followed by a set of questions to help you really get to the heart of the matter.  You can dive as deep as you wish with these.  There is plenty of room on the page to write your feelings and answers as you do.

Next you will find a daily prayer, followed by a place to share your thoughts if you should so choose.  This is a great way to reflect yourself about how the devotion spoke to you as well as what you have learned through it.

There are 40 Reflections in all and plenty of room to write.  The book is of average size and easy to carry along with you if you chose to do so.  It is an Indie Book Finalist.

You can buy a copy of Enfolded In God’s Arms: 40 Reflections to Embrace Your Inner Healing by Lisa Are Wulf online for around $10.  It’s a lovely book that you’ll enjoy adding to your devotional collection.

The One Year® Devos For Teen Girls {Tyndale Review}

The One Year® Devos For Teen Girls

Tyndale House Publishers

As a Mother of a teen girl, I’m often looking for devotional resources to reach my child’s heart.  I want them to learn Biblical value.  I want them to learn God’s Word and the best way to do this is through books like the The One Year® Devos For Teen Girls.

This 384 page devotional was written just for teen girls.  This is a handbook for young girls in the very fast-paced world of today.  Featuring current and modern topics that young women can relate to, this devotional helps young girls maneuver their life while learning important Biblical lessons on the path.

The One Year® Devos For Teen Girls is written by Dannah Gresh who really brings God’s word to life for teen girls.  She has a big sister way about her, sharing her wise advice mixed with God’s own word and relating it to issues that girls face today.  Gresh brings to the forefront all of today’s sticky topics like sexuality, love and lust, bullying, self-worth, and hypocrisy.  Things girls need to learn in today’s unstable world.

I grabbed this book for my own teen to ensure she had a stable understanding of these subjects matters and how God feels about them through Gresh’s direction shared within the pages of this devotional.   She’s really enjoyed reading and relating to the subjects shared within the book.

To grab your own copy of  The One Year® Devos For Teen Girls, you can purchase straight from Tyndale House Publishers for $14.99 in softcover.  An eBook is available as well.

Putting On The Spirit {Review}

December 16, 2013 by Dana

Have you found your self struggling to keep up with the Word of God as a busy Mom?  Is your time short and are your days rushed with little time to look at the Bible, much less read it?  Do you find that your prayers go up quickly but there is no room for anything else but yet you’d like to add in that sweet devotional time with the Lord?
Look no further than Putting On The Spirit by Katie Hornor.  Putting On The Spirit is a one month devotional that literally takes 10 minutes from your day to do.  In 10 minutes, you can find yourself surrounded by the Lord’s love and word even on the busiest of days.
Katie is a busy Mom just like you.  She wrote Putting On The Spirit because she understands how valuable our time as a Mom is.  She understands what it’s like to raise children, keep a home, job, and family going.  She herself has struggled the same struggle as us, in keeping up with her devotional studies all while maintaining real life.
Putting On The Spirit is a one month study, designed to be completed in only 10 minutes a day for the course of the month used.  Concentrating on the Fruit of the Spirit, this devotional challenges you, Busy Mom, to examine yourself and your life in the light of Scriptures to better yourself and even those around you through the daily lessons as well.  It is bound to be a blessing in your life.
Putting On The Spirit is available in both English and Spanish for Kindle download.  The retail price is $4.99 and it’s well worth the cost.  As a bonus, a Katie has also provided a downloadable workbook to go along with the study for free!
After the Foreword and the beautifully written Introduction, the eBook begins with the good stuff: Breaking down the Fruits of the Spirit into daily bites that can be covered in those 10 minutes a day.  You will cover Love, Joy, Peace, Long Suffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Meekness, Self Control and finally, putting it all together in Putting On The Whole Fruit.  This is followed by the Appendix where Katie share her testimony in Faith and more.
Each of Putting On The Spirit’s devotional chapters are broken down into days.  Each day begins with a verse from the Bible.  This is followed by a very quick explanation of what’s been read or an activity to build on what you are revealing in the Word itself.  The segment is wrapped up with short questions to get you thinking about the meaning of the scripture and to help build your prayer on the subject for that day.
Each day of the devotional provides a different experience which really helps you to build upon the lessons being learned and allows you to wrap yourself into the Scripture.  Since the devotion only takes 10 minutes, this really allows you to meditate on that one verse throughout your day, though it does leave you anxious to get to the next day as well.  I found that to be a good thing, leaving me wanting to move forward with the study where so many others have left me feeling empty and dry.
The beautifully designed workbook that Katie has created to go along with the Putting On The Spirit devotional study, is a wonderful place to work through each days lesson requirements.  This can be printed and placed into a notebook for easy use as your read through your day’s devotion.  It is 29 pages long and provides plenty of space for writing out details for each devotion.
Putting On The Spirit is 25 pages long and available on Kindle for $4.99.  It’s available in English and Spanish.  The bonus workbook is FREE.
You can read more about Katie Hornor and Putting On The Spirit on her website Paradise Praises.  You can also find Paradise Praises on Facebook and Twitter.
Putting On The Spirit has been such a blessing to me over the past few weeks!  I’m more than certain you will love it too!
