This Scarlett Cord {BookSneeze Review}

April 25, 2013 by Dana

Joan Wolf is a 30 year veteran of Romance writing.  She has provided great reading material in the genre’s of Historical Romance, Regency Romance, Historical Novels and more.  Her series of biblical based fictions is unlike anything I’ve ever read.

The Scarlet Cord tells the love story of Rahab.  Rahab is a Canaanite woman from the times of battle in Jericho. Rahab aided the Israelite people by hanging a scarlet cord from her window to give warning.  Though this was a dangerous thing to do, this brave and beautiful young woman took much risk to help a cause she believed in and follow her faith in the meantime.

While preforming this brave action, Rahab also finds her one true love, Sala.  Sala is an Israelite boy who saves her in more than one way.  Her love of Sala and her strength to do what is write leads her to find her greatest love of all: The Love of God.  Both were everlasting and unconditional loves that she never thought she’d find.

Though this book is fictional, it does have a biblical story line.  The story of Rahab has been created from the events of the time period from biblical accounts.  I found the story intriguing and easy to follow.  It was very much enjoyable and it has led me to want to read more Historical Fiction from Joan Wolf.

This wonderful book, The Scarlet Cord,  from Joan Wolf can be found online for $15.99.  Joan Wolf is also the writer of A Reluctant Queen and the recently released novel, Daughter of Jerusalem.

Sunrise on the Battery by Beth Webb Hart {BookLook Bloggers Review}

Sunrise on the Battery by Beth Webb Hart

When I read the summary of Sunrise on the Battery and learned that it was written about our local Charleston, South Carolina, I was excited to read and review it.  I was not disappointed.  Painting beautiful scenes of Charleston’s antiquity, Beth Webb Hart provides a beautifully, inspirational story about a woman who is looking for a change in her life, her family and her faith.

Mary Lynn Scoville is living the life that many dream of but few can obtain.  This wife and mother of two beautiful, yet completely different daughters finds an emptiness in her soul that she is unable to fulfill.  A surprise encounter changes Mary Lynn’s life and she longs to share it with her husband, Jackson, but he turned his back on God long ago.

On Christmas Eve, Mary Lynn asks God to create a change in her husband which eventually does come true, though not in the way Mary Lynn has been hoping.  As her husband becomes a strong evangelist for God’s purpose, Mary Lynn feels even more isolated and lonely in her faith.  As their life changes, Mary Lynn wonders if their marriage will survive the new changes or if this new life is everything they could have ever dreamed of.

Sunrise on the Battery is available at Amazon for $11.38 and is a must-read for every lover of a Southern Faith novel!

God’s Love Letters to You by Dr. Larry Crabb {Booksneeze Review}

August 10, 2011 by Dana

Author: Dr. Larry Crabb
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Price: $9.99
Paperback
Book type: Gift or Devotional
     This book was written by Dr. Larry Crabb and is based upon his book 66 Love Letters.  God’s Love Letter’s to You is a 40 day devotional sharing both scripture and meaning from the world’s greatest book, the Bible.  Every one of the 40 day devotions includes a short letter, a reflection upon the words written to pray over throughout the day and a prayer.  A different prayer and verse for everyday for 40 days covering 40 books of the Bible.  This devotional is thoughtful and beautifully written.  It would make a perfect gift for a young adult or someone special.
I enjoyed reading through this book.  The reflections and prayers were easily used and stuck thoughtfully with me throughout the day.  I was also easily able to share the devotions with my children and discuss what the author meant by each, as well as what God wanted us to learn throughout the book.  God’s Love Letter’s to You is an exceptional devotional and something I will read again.

Regret Free Parenting: Raise Good Kids and Know You’re Doing It Right
Written by Catherine Hickem, LCSW
Published by Thomas Nelson Publishers

Catherine Hickem, founder of Intentional Moms, wrote the book Regret Free Parenting as a guide based upon her nearly 30 years of experience from raising children to her ministry to other women.  She is a motherhood expert who has devoted her life to helping other Moms raise exceptional children.
In her book, Mrs. Hickem shows parents how to raise children without regret by being an intentional parent.  She explains how to equip your child with confidence, allowing children to learn by relative consequence and strong guidance. She teaches parents the difference between being a controling parent and being an intentional parent by providing seven parenting principles.  Each of the principles discuss how to prevent insecurities, teach respect, raise good teens, and much more.
I believe that during times of distress God provides the perfect guidance in many ways.  For me, this book could not have come at a better time as I was going through some tough parenting issues with my strong-willed middle child.  I had been searching for the perfect remedy to help our relationship and allow guidance for my child.  Regret Free Parenting gave that to me when I needed it most.  Through this book, I was able to learn techniques that helped me overlook some of my relationship issues with my daughter and correct other issues we had.  Since implementing the steps and ideas listed throughout the book, our relationship has grown in a better direction making our lives much easier, day by day.  I feel that Regret Free Parenting has helped strengthen my parenting skills.

Christian Encounters: Winston Churchill by John Perry {Book Review}

March 31, 2010 by Dana

Christian Encounters: Winston Churchill by John Perry
Book Review

John Perry presents us with an interesting view of the life of Winston Churchill in this self-titled biography.  He begins with Winston’s unsavory birth tale, and carries us all the way through his school years, wars and on to his death.  This book tells of Winston’s unwavering, strong faith throughout his life and trials, from the women who encouraged his faithfulness to his time as a Master Statesman and one of the greatest men from the 20th Century.  Always allowing God to lead him through his even the most awful events in his lifetime.

This book is available through Thomas Nelson Publishers online, retailing at around $12.00.  A provided reading guide is also available through this same site.

I recieved this book as a gift from Thomas Nelson Publishers through their https://www.booksneeze.com/ program for review.  The opinions expressed are my own and are no relation to that of Thomas Nelson Publishers, John Perry or any other program.  I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 https://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/waisidx_03/16cfr255_03.html: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”
