Finally Focused {Blogging for Books Review}

February 24, 2018 by Dana

Finally Focused

Little known fact:  Not only are we an Epilepsy family but we are also an ADHD family as well.  My oldest has always had issues with ADHD and this, along with our younger three’s seizures are one of many reasons why we chose Homeschooling.  I’m always looking for new ideas to help him and my other two children who have ADHD as well, find things to manage this disorder.  Finally Focused by James Greenblatt, M.D, and Bill Gottlieb, CHC, peaked my interest immediately.

To be honest, in my research, I’ve found that ADHD and Epilepsy mirror each other a great deal.  One child gets overwhelmed or stressed and seizes.  The other becomes hyperactive and can’t stop themselves or shut down.  Both have end results that need assistance.

Finally Focused helps you to find balance.  It shows you ways to restore attention.  It helps you find ways to minimize your child’s hyperactivity and it helps you eliminate drug side effects when necessary.  As a family, we don’t medicate for ADHD but some of these ideas were helpful for our Epilepsy medication side effects.

I’m a believer in treating the disorder naturally with simple and natural methods as much as possible.  This book will help you to make that happen.  Routine, rest, good diet are all contributors and all discussed within the pages of this wonderful book.  You’ll find tons of ideas to use in your own home with your own families.

Finally Focused is available through Harmony Books as well as other retailers.  The book sells for $12.99 on Kindle, or $11.55 in paperback on Amazon.  This is a must read for all families with an ADHD child.

Tyndale Rewards Program {A Propeller Review}

August 8, 2013 by Dana

Tyndale House Publishers has an amazing list of products for the Christian reader.  Tyndale is one of the top names in Publishing Christian materials.  Now they offer yet another wonderful program with Tyndale Rewards.

Tyndale Rewards is a great way to earn points for FREE {Yes, you read that right: FREE} books and Bibles from Tyndale House Publishers themselves!  All you have to do is sign up and you can immediately begin gathering points to earn your first book.  It’s really easy.

Tyndale Rewards gives you points for getting your friends to sign up.  They give points for completing simple surveys they offer.  They also give points for participating in their Focus Group, signing up for their inspiring devotionals, sharing on Twitter and Facebook and much more.

As an added bonus, you can review any Tyndale product online, provide the link to the review and also earn reward points.  This is great for those already registered as part of their Tyndale Blog Network, like me!  If you are a blogger, it’s a great program to participate in.
It didn’t take me long to gather points to earn my first book.  They have a wonderful selection of Bibles to choose from, as well as children’s books, adult fictions and non-fictions and so much more.  Many of their recent popular titles are available to earn with Tyndale Rewards and once again it’s all for FREE!
My Tyndale Rewards book choice was Bees In The Butterfly Garden by Maureen Lang.  This book took 65 of my Tyndale Reward points.  Shipping was free.  I ordered my FREE copy last week and my book arrived today.  It’s a beautiful, brand new book in perfect condition.  Now I can read it, review it and earn even more points.
Since ordering my book, I have completed more rewards tasks.  My Tyndale Rewards are now at 50 points and I can either save them, as they never expire, or I can keep adding to them by completing more tasks and reviews for the program.  It’s a win win situation for Tyndale Rewards and for me!
To learn more about Tyndale Rewards or to sign up, please visit their website, Tyndale Rewards!

Disclaimer – Tyndale Rewards is a FREE program that anyone can sign up for.  I was asked to use and review this program though my FlyBy Promotions account with Propeller Reviews.  I was already aware of the program and planning to join in anyway so what better extra incentive than to provide a review for Propeller too!  As this program is FREE, I gained nothing from either company by joining in except for the usual reward of FREE stuff from earning points through the program itself.  I’m including this disclaimer in accordance with FTC guidelines and regulations.

Affiliate links are included in this review which bring me extra points for the Tyndale Rewards program!

The “U” Word {Homeschooling}

June 10, 2013 by Dana

I have four children.  Three who are school aged and one sweet baby.  I chose a long time ago to homeschool them.  If you have been on my blog long, or are my Facebook friend, etc then you already know all of this.

We are not traditional homeschoolers.  I don’t have time for that!  But we are homeschoolers none the less.

I came to realize recently that I don’t talk a whole lot about our homeschooling adventures.  I honestly have no idea why except maybe it’s because, to me, our homeschooling doesn’t look a whole lot different than the everyday normal.  We play, we eat, we draw, write, color, watch tv.  This list could get pretty long.  We do all the same things you do when your children are home, only we do them as part of our schooling.

See we are Eclectic in educational style.  We are extremely relaxed.  We border strongly on Unschooling.

I can hear your sharp intake of breath.  “Did she just say Unschooling?! Isn’t that doing no school at all?!  You mean she’s not teaching those kids?! The shame.”

No, no!  That’s not what Unschooling is at all!  Unschooling is allowing my children educational freedom to learn on their own.  Unschooling is having faith in God to lead our daily studies.  Unschooling is letting my children be children as God intended for them to be.

I teach by playing with my kids or seeing to it they have the necessary tools to learn with.  I teach as they ask questions to learn more about something they want to know.  I teach by explaining that it’s not proper to say “I ain’t gonna play with she today” and why it’s not.  This list can go on too.

What you won’t see in my home every day is me standing at a black board writing out words or me standing over my daughter as she practices her writing.  You won’t find me patiently waiting while they finish up a test or timing them as they learn their math facts.  You won’t find my children learning rote memorization of facts they don’t find interesting or us reading from a text book written just so they can be equal educationally to millions of other students.

What you will find is a library stocked with interesting books on 1000’s of subjects that they can and do pick up and read at will.  You will find a stocked video area and a subscription to Netflix, along with a full channel  satellite package so they can view documentaries and other educational movies at the drop of a hat as we learn.  You will find the internet connected at all times so we can research things that catch their interest or puzzle their minds.  You will also find tons of toys for interactive play, legos for building and math, crayons, paper, coloring pages, and a working printer for challenging them to absorb their world daily.

That is the way of Unschooling and Relaxed, Eclectic education.  We learn every day about many different things in a way we love, making education something we love.  And I, nor my children, would have that any other way.

Christian Encounters: Winston Churchill by John Perry {Book Review}

March 31, 2010 by Dana

Christian Encounters: Winston Churchill by John Perry
Book Review

John Perry presents us with an interesting view of the life of Winston Churchill in this self-titled biography.  He begins with Winston’s unsavory birth tale, and carries us all the way through his school years, wars and on to his death.  This book tells of Winston’s unwavering, strong faith throughout his life and trials, from the women who encouraged his faithfulness to his time as a Master Statesman and one of the greatest men from the 20th Century.  Always allowing God to lead him through his even the most awful events in his lifetime.

This book is available through Thomas Nelson Publishers online, retailing at around $12.00.  A provided reading guide is also available through this same site.

I recieved this book as a gift from Thomas Nelson Publishers through their https://www.booksneeze.com/ program for review.  The opinions expressed are my own and are no relation to that of Thomas Nelson Publishers, John Perry or any other program.  I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 https://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/waisidx_03/16cfr255_03.html: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”
