The Star Movie {Propeller Review}

March 9, 2018 by Dana

I am so very excited for this utterly adorable movie’s release!  The STAR Movie tells the story of Jesus’ birth from the animals point of view.  AFFIRM Films, along with Sony Pictures, have truly outdone themselves with this wonderful children’s movie.

The STAR Movie was made available on DVD & Blu-Ray on February 20, 2018.  Digital release was a few days earlier on February 6, 2018.  It is definitely one movie you are not going to want to miss.

The voices behind the movie are some of the BEST:  Steven Yeun of “The Walking Dead”, Aidy Bryant from “Saturday Night Live”, Tracy Morgan of “30 Rock”, Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, just to name a few.  Songs by Mariah Carey, Fifth Harmony and Kelsea Ballerini, among others.  This movie has brought together some of the greatest artists of our time.

The story, as I mentioned above, tells of the Birth of Christ from the point of view of the animals.   The main character is Bo the Donkey.  Bo is small, but brave.  He wishes for a life outside of where he’s at: he wants to be special.  He finds his courage, breaks free and ends up on the adventure of a lifetime.

On his journey, he meets the adorable and lovable sheep, Ruth, who has lost her flock.  He also meets Dave, a dove who aspires to be more.  Three wise-cracking camels also cross his path as he follows the Star and becomes the heroes of the greatest story that’s ever been told!

The STAR Movie also includes an hour of wonderful bonus materials, including the “Star-aoke: Sing Along with Bo & Friends”.  I don’t know about you but we LOVE sing-alongs at our house.  For us, this is one of the best bonuses to have.

There’s also a dance along, a variety of lyric videos that will get your family singing out loud, crafts and baking ideas complete with “how-to” videos.  Go behind the scenes and meet the cast.  See who played who and how they made the magic happen.

But honestly, the BEST bonus is the amazing Live Guided “Faith All Year Round” Bible Study from Devon Franklin.  This study is interactive.  Devon really makes learning about the Bible fun and helps bring the Spirit to Life for children.  You’re going to love this addition to this already outstanding movie!

You can start your family-friendly weekly Bible Study with Devon Franklin by visiting this link:

The STAR Movie is rated PG and is approximately 86 minutes long.  It’s available for purchase for around $17.99 online or in stores.  This is one movie you’re going to LOVE!

None Like Him by Jen Wilkin {A Propeller Review}

May 11, 2016 by Dana

None Like Him

By Jen Wilkin

10 Ways God is Different From Us
(and why that’s agood thing)

Jen Wilkin is an every day woman, just like all of us. She’s a Mom, a wife, a writer and so much more. Jen never thought she’d be writing a book about the Lord but she has and oh what a book it is!

None Like Him: 10Ways God is Different From Us (and why that’s a good thing) explains to the reader how wonderful God is in so many ways. Jen explains how God is so different than us yet we are still created to be like Him in so many aspects. She shows how God is everything good in life and how we should be thankful to be His children.
Throughout the chapters of None Like Him, Jen shows us how to be more like God. She shows us how mighty, how loving, how merciful and gracious God truly is. She brings forth an abundance of joy through her writing and helps to rekindle a flame that sometimes dims as we go through our day to day life.

Each chapter of this book discusses a different attribute of God and teaches you how to learn from that attribute to become more like Him in your own life. Jen focuses on the particular elements of God and teaches us how to bring them out of ourselves to better us personally. She teaches how to use these attributes for the best of our well-being.

None Like Him contains 10 chapters and is 163 pages in length. Each chapter begins with an inspirational quote from various authors who inspire like Jen herself. There are various subheadings throughout the chapters to focus on each attribute in more detail. Related scriptures are also shared throughout the text.

The end of every chapter contains related Bible verses for meditating. There are also questions to reflect upon the readings for the chapter. Each chapter also ends with a prayer that helps us to strengthen and build a better relationship with God.

None Like Him would make a great personal devotional. It would also make a great study for a women’s group at church. The book is small but packed with valuable lessons that anyone could grow from.

None Like Him: 10 Ways God IsDifferent From Us (and why that’s a good thing) by Jen Wilkins is available for $11.69 in paperback or $8.57 on Kindle. You can find this book online at Amazon.

Alone, Yet Not Alone {Propeller Review}

August 27, 2013 by Dana

I received Alone, Yet Not Alone by Tracy Leininger Craven a few weeks ago from FlyBy Promotions (Propeller Reviews).  I was completely expecting this book to be like any other tale from the past and I had little knowledge about the story that it held inside.  A few days after receiving the book, I began reading it and could not put it down.
Alone, Yet Not Alone tells the story of Barbara Leininger and her family.  Barbara is a great ancestor of the book’s author and her story has been passed down until it was written into this book.  This true story will leave you on edge and captivated as you read through it.
Barbara and her family live in a Valley bordering Penn’s Creek.  They are hard working settlers, who don’t bother a soul.  They have a kinship with the local Indian tribes and have no fear of harm despite the recent wars going on around them.
That is, until a rogue Indian tribe visits their home, killing Barbara’s father and brother, killing friends and neighbors and taking Barbara, her sister and other women and children hostage.  Barbara has no idea of what will happen in her future, only that she must try to remain alive, have faith in God to keep her and her sister safe.  She must lean on her faith and remember God’s Word until she finds a way to escape and return home.
Alone, Yet Not Alone is an amazing story of triumph, God’s Will and Faith.  The journey you are taken on within the pages of this story are unimaginable, yet they happened to many not so long ago.  This book leaves you wanting to know what happens and if Barbara and her sister will make it through.
This book is written for ages 8 and up.  It would make a great addition to any home library.  It’s a great story to add into your homeschooling history program as a read-aloud or as a personal story to read.  It is one we will be reading together in the future ourselves.
Alone, Yet Not Alone is being made into a motion picture, set to release September 27, 2013.  This amazing story will be available to see and I, personally, can hardly wait!  As soon as I finished the book, I knew this was a movie I would not want to miss!
Alone, Yet Not Alone is available for purchase for $9.99 from ZonderKids and Zondervan.

*Disclaimer – I received a free paperback copy of Alone, Yet Not Alone from FlyBy Promotions and Propeller Reviews in exchange for my honest opinion shared in a blog post.  I’m including this disclaimer in accordance with FTC Guidelines and Regulations.

Hey God, I’ve Got Some Guy Named Jonah In My Stomach: The Whale’s Side of the Story {Propeller Review}

May 1, 2013 by Dana

Hey God, I’ve Got Some Guy Named Jonah In My Stomach And I Think I’m Going To Throw Up!
By Troy Schmidt
BH Publishing Group
US $9.99
Hey God, I’ve Got Some Guy Named Jonah In My Stomach And I Think I’m Going To Throw Up! is possibly the funniest children’s bible story I have personally ever read.  This hilarious story is written by Troy Schmidt from a totally different viewpoint that no one has thought of telling before: That of the Whale itself!
Whale tells how he was simply swimming around the ocean when one day out of the blue he heard God speaking to him.  (Yes, apparently, Whales believe in God too!)  Much like Jonah, Whale didn’t want to listen to God’s commands so he swam off as fast as he could in the opposite direction of God’s whispered wishes.  But that Whale didn’t miss out on the glory of working for God because God planned it that way all along and the Whale ended up right where God wished for him to be.
To find out what happens, well you will just have to read the story: Hey God, I’ve Got Some Guy Named Jonah In My Stomach And I Think I’m Going To Throw Up!  It’s available today from BH Publishing Group for $9.99.  It’s a book you will surely enjoy and a story you won’t soon forget!!
The BEST part is that Propeller has generously offered to gift one of our readers with their own copy of this awesome book.  To win a copy of Hey God, I’ve Got Some Guy Named Jonah In My Stomach And I Think I’m Going To Throw Up!  just complete the entries listed in my RaffleCopter Giveaway today!
