Zondervan: The Beginner’s Bible for Children {Propeller Review}

January 4, 2017 by Dana

The Beginner’s Bible

Timeless Children’s Stories

Zonderkidz

$12.88

Growing up, I greatly enjoyed listening to my Mother read to me from our classic Bible stories book.  It is one of my favorite memories as a child.  As a parent I am always looking for new books to share with my own children and books that share wonderfully written stories from the Bible always top that list.  So when I was approached to review The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories from Zonderkidz, I knew that this book would fit well with our family.
The Beginner’s Bible shares many wonderful stories from different parts of the Bible.  From the story of Noah to Jesus and many more.  These are the timeless classics that have been told to children for centuries, that never tire and are rooted deep in important lessons for all of us.
The Beginner’s Bible has been around for a while now and is a classic in it’s own right but Zonderkidz has completely changed the original format of the Bible by creating a whole new look.  The pages are crisp and concise, featuring 3D imagery for the new illustrations.  The font is larger for little ones to be able to see better, making it easier for them to read God’s Word.  The pages are now glossy which makes it easier to keep the pages cleaner for years of repeat reading and sharing with  your little one.
The Beginner’s Bible includes 90 stories from the Bible and is written for kids ages 6 and under.  To be honest though, all of my children enjoyed this Bible, including my older kids who read many of the stories to the younger children.  My younger daughter has enjoyed this copy of The Beginner’s Bible the most though, reading it to her little brother and sharing the stories with me as well.  It’s been great for helping her develop her reading skills and we are thrilled to have it added to our family’s library as well.
You can add a copy of The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories from Zondervan to your family library as well for $12.88, available online through Amazon.com. This book also makes a great gift to share with others.  I hope you enjoy The Beginner’s Bible as much as we do in our home!
Graciously, Zonderkidz and Flyby Promotions is giving one copy of The Beginner’s Bible away to one of my lucky readers.  Please leave me a comment below on this post to tell me why you’d like to win a copy of this wonderful Children’s Bible for your home today!  I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, Bali {Review}

June 12, 2014 by Dana

Hello, Bali: A Kids Yoga Island Adventure Book is a super cute book about both Bali and Yoga shared together in one amazing little package.  This book, written by Giselle Shardlow, is designed to be used by children ages 2.5-6.  The book is about 50 pages in length.

At the beginning of the book, we meet Tia the Tiger who helps us learn to navigate through the books pages.  Tia introduces us to the book’s main character, Anamika, whose family is visiting Bali on vacation.  Anamika is originally from India.

Anamika takes us on an adventurous tour of Bali.  Each page of the book is beautifully illustrated by Emily Gedkyz and each features a particular word which you can find written in blue to stand out from the original text.  These are great for vocabulary skill building.

The words in blue also relate to the Yoga pose shared on the page of the book you are reading.  Each page of the book features a different, easily accomplished pose for children to try out, with the help of their parent of course!  These are a lot of fun.

At the end of the book, there are a few bonus pages.  Anamika helps to teach us to count in Indonesian and also some essential words and phrases in Indonesian, as well.  There’s also a review of the Yoga poses that are taught throughout the book and a parent guide for using the book and the poses with your child as a sort of lesson plan.

We really enjoyed Hello, Bali.  The poses were great for my little girl to practice her Yoga poses with me.  We already do Yoga in the home and she knows a few of the basic poses but the book was helpful to suggest some poses that we haven’t used before.  Plus the story is adorable!

Hello, Bali is available in paperback for $11.61 from Amazon.com!

*Disclaimer – A PDF copy of this book was gifted to me for free in exchange for providing this review in my own words and honest opinion from Mother Daughter Book Reviews.  I’m including this disclaimer in accordance with FTC regulations and guidelines.

Bash and the Pirate Pig {Propeller Review}

September 18, 2013 by Dana

Bash and the Pirate Pig
Burton Cole
Publisher: BHKids
Paper Over Board
$12.99
Available in stores now!
Meet Sebastian HingleHobb.  He’s also known as Bash.  He’s Raymond Boxby’s cousin and he’s, well, something else!  But totally in a good way.
Bash is known for his quirky escapades and his outrageous experiments.  He nicknames everything, even Raymond aka Beamer.  He enjoys riding cows and trying to make his friends fly by covering them with Fly Tape.  There’s never a dull moment with Bash around!

In Bash and the Pirate Pig, Raymond “Beamer” Boxby is sent to spend the summer with Sebastian “Bash” HingleHobb.  Raymond’s parents feel spending the summer on a spacious farm will be much better than spending it with his nose stuck in comic books and video games.  Raymond would rather not but when the parents say go, what choice does he have but to go.  Bash opens Raymond’s eyes to a whole new world, creating experiences and memories that both Raymond and Bash will never forget.
Through the book, Bash teaches Raymond wise lessons from inside his “Farmin’ and Fishin’ Book” also known as the Bible.  These are lessons that Raymond doesn’t always get at home but he learns to enjoy thanks to his cousin’s zany adventures.  They are great lessons that every child can enjoy.
You can purchase Bash and the Pirate Pig online or in stores for $12.99.   This is a book our family truly enjoyed and yours will too!
 You can view more BHKids books online at https://www.bhpublishinggroup.com.
*Disclaimer – I received a copy of Bash and the Pirate Pig free in exchange for my honest opinion shared in a review from BHKids and FlyBy Promotions.  I’m including this disclaimer in accordance with FTC guidelines and regulations.

Homeschool Programming, Inc: KidCoder Web Series {Crew Review}

July 26, 2013 by Dana

If you are looking for a great way to teach your student Web design and programming then look no further than Homeschool Programming, Inc.  Homeschool Programming offers quality products to provide a thorough education in programming with it’s KidCoder and TeenCoder product lines.  These programs are created to be easy for the student and teacher to use and understanding, making web creation easy to do.
For this review, we were given the KidCoder Web Series program to use at home.  This digital download came with everything needed for my student to learn web programming in the comfort of our home.  Our download included the program needed to complete this study along with the student workbook and videos that explained what we needed to do to learn how the web works and even create projects of our own.
The KidCoder Series is created with the 4th-8th grade student and parent in mind.  These courses are not overwhelming, yet they pack a lot of knowledge into their wonderful program.  This series is a great introduction for students who may be interested in further web creation later on.
Students who use this program, or any program from Homeschool Programming, Inc. should have a basic knowledge of how a computer works.  They should be able to create save files on their own and also be sufficient in using a keyboard.  It would be appropriate that they have a basic knowledge of using a web browser and searching online as well.
The awesome thing about the KidCoder series is that once you purchase this curriculum you can use it for life.  There is no online membership that runs out or limited license with the program, with the exception of schools in which a separate license would need to be purchased for each student.  The basic workbook purchased will work for any student at any time within a homeschooling family and a student can take as long as needed to complete the program.  It can be used with multiple students within a family as the same time as well.
Since this course is set up to work with your students pace, it can be completed in various ways.  What may take one student an entire semester to complete will only take another half a semester to work through, while yet other students may take a year to finish the basic first semester portion.  How you chose to work through the program is up to you and your student’s personal needs.
By design, the course is created to be completed in one semester with 13 chapters in the KidCoder Beginning Web Design series textbook.  Each chapter contains 3-4 lessons, Work With Me’s, a lesson review and an activity to complete.  The final chapter requires the student to complete a final project using what has been taught in each lesson of the program.  Weekly dedication to this program should be at least 3-4 hours or longer depending on the student’s abilities.
This series does include instructional videos for the instructor and student to view.  These videos are designed to be a tool but not to teach the entire course to the student.  They explain the techniques used within the chapters to help the instructor and student better understand the program as they work through it.
Due to medical issues in our family over the course of this review, we did not get as far with it as I would have liked to with the program but what we have completed we have enjoyed.  We were only able to work through part of the Beginning Web Design series.  I’ve used this with both my daughter who is 10 and my son who is 12, working together with them through the chapters and lessons.  Each have come away with a new opinion on web programming and how their computers work.  They look forward to completing this program, as do I along with them.
Homeschool Programming, Inc.’s KidCoder Web Series is available for purchase.  The KidCoder: Web Year Pack combines both the Beginning Web Design and Advanced Web Design programs for a $120 for courses only or $145 for both courses and videos.  KidCoder: Beginning Web Design and KidCoder: Advanced Web Design each cost $70 separately per course or $85 for the course with video instruction.

Motherboard Books: Let’s Make A Webpage {Crew Review}

June 10, 2013 by Dana

Do you know how to make a webpage?  Could you teach your children how?  Is this something you need assistance in learning or teaching your children how to do?  Then look no further than Let’s Make A Webpage from Motherboard Books!

Let’s Make A Webpage teaches your child, or you, everything you need to know about building your own webpage from scratch.  Using CoffeeCup HTML Editor you will learn the basics of webpage building and so much more.  Let’s Make A Webpage makes webpage making easy!

The first step in using this e-book is to create an interview to use in preparation for your webpage.  The student needs to choose several questions of their own creation to ask someone they wish to know more about.  This could be Mom, Dad, the neighbor, their sister, cousin, aunt, the librarian, etc.  Whoever the student wishes to interview.

My son chose to interview Dad.  These were his questions:
1. What is your job?
2. How long have you been doing it?
3. What exactly do you do?
4. Did you learn anything during school that helped to prepare you for your job?
5. Is this the career you expected to have?
My daughter chose to interview her Grandma.  These were the questions she asked:
1. What year were you born?
2. What was life like when you were a child?
3. What were you like at my age?
4. What was schooling like for you at my age?
5. How are things different from your childhood until now?
6.  How are you and I different at this same age?
After they both conducted their interviews, we then wrote out a short report explaining all of the things they learned from their interviews.  This gathered information was used in the process of creating their webpages.  We also saved a photo of each person interviewed to use within our webpage.
The next step was downloading CoffeeCup HTML Editor to use for creating our webpages.  After downloading, we input our information, page title, etc.  Then we clicked save so that we could work with this file throughout the process.
Then came the fun stuff: learning how to use text boxes, HTML codes, color and all the other fine details that work together to make a webpage a webpage.  These details are the simple, yet complicated things that everyone should know when building a webpage.  Let’s Make A Webpage made them easy to learn and easy to use!
Through these 10 easy but thorough lessons in the Let’s Make A Webpage e-book, the student learns all the important details in creating their own personal webpage. Once a student completes this program, they should have enough knowledge to be able to build any basic webpage they would like.
In the later chapters of Let’s Make A Webpage, students also learn to use animations, add in photos, how to safely use the internet and much more. These details combine to create a webpage that is catchy and attractive to the eye. And best of all it’s all easier than many people may realize.
Let’s Make A Webpage from Motherboard Books was written to be used with children ages 8 and up. It’s available as an e-book download for $19.95. It is designed to be used with the free download version of CoffeeCup HTML Editor. This program also encourages experimenting and creativity in working with computers.  Don’t forget to check out Motherboard Books other programs too!
