Let’s face it. We’ve all dealt with shame at some point in our lives. Shame of a hurtful past, of an addiction, of career failure, parenting challenges: the list could go on and on. Having dealt with shame, most of us have wondered how to overcome and let go of the hurt, pain and well depressive qualities it often brings on.
In Unashamed: Healing Our Brokenness and Finding Freedom from Shame, Heather Davis Nelson helps challenge us to learn how to deal with this traumatic emotion. Unashamed is a devotional that reaches out to the reader to help them relate and realize that we are all equal in our emotion of shame and that we can all overcome this emotion to become happier and stronger individuals in time no matter what your shame is.
Unashamed is a 192 page paperback devotional published by Crossway. It contains an Introduction, 9 chapters, a Conclusion, two Appendixes, a general and a scriptural index as well. Each chapter begins with a quote or a scriptural reference relating to the chapter itself. Each chapter then breaks down into subtitles discussing different levels of shame and how to heal them. The chapters end with a reflection and discussion that can be used as a journal entry if you’re completing the study alone, as a point of discussion if you’re working through this book with your spouse, or a reflection and discussion if you are working through this book with your book club or church group.
Unashamed gets you thinking and helps you to heal your emotional wounds. It’s a wonderfully written book that could be used in many ways and should be recommended for every one to read. You can purchase Unashamed: Healing Our Brokenness and Finding Freedom from Shame by Heather Davis Nelson online at Amazon or in your local bookstore.
