We are life long homeschoolers. We’ve lived in 3 states now with various requirements for state laws. The one thing I have always found useful is the Hey, Mama! Schoolhouse Planner for 2019/20 Year from The Old Schoolhouse® written by Gena Suarez.
Gena Suarez is one of the owners of The Old Schoolhouse®, a leader of the homeschooling community and an inspiration to Mother’s like me, and a decade long friend of mine. She gives support, a listening ear, helps promote vendors, and provides friendship as well as guidance to homeschoolers around the World. She has a true heart of gold and I am always honored to work for the Homeschool Review Crew, a division of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine. In fact, I joined the Homeschool Review Crew because of an invitation from Gena and I have stayed with the Crew because of the person that she is and the wonderful company her family has created.
The Old Schoolhouse® provides many products for homeschoolers that are wonderful and the Hey, Mama! Schoolhouse Planner for 2019/20 Year is no exception. This planner comes in paperback form with a spiral binding to allow the planner to lay flat to the table as you plan. The planner has full 8.5×11 pages with clear writing laid out to allow room to schedule, add small notes, and really plan your year. It contains 188 pages, and enough planning room for 5 children. Gena’s design is for large families like ours.
My favorite thing though is that the Hey, Mama! Schoolhouse Planner is a devotional for Mother’s like me. Included within the pages are short but inspiring devotional written to speak to the Homeschool Mom’s heart as she trudges through her days educating her beautiful children. When you need a pick me up, Gena is there within the pages of your planner to lift you up.
The planner starts out with one of these devotionals as soon as you open the first page. Page 3 includes a Table of Contents to help you find your way. Sticky tabs would work beautifully with this planner so you can easily find all you need as you work through your year.
There is a short explanation on how to create an Academic Transcript which is wonderfully written to help you understand how to implement this tool in your homeschooling for future planning. This is followed by an Academic Transcript page that you simply fill out for your records. A Checklist and Skills Learned page is also included which is easy to fill in and use.
Next you will find full year calendars for 2019-2021 to help you visually see the year’s dates and prepare ahead for planning. The planner itself begins with July 2019, providing a notes sheet at the beginning of the month, followed by a block calendar for July. Each month also has a devotional included for you. This pattern repeats up to June 2020.
The next section is a weekly planner. This is a section of basic dateless pages designed for use with up to 5 children. There is a block for subjects and you can fill in by child what is to be completed. There are 52 weeks of planning pages in this section for your full year of planning. You will also find several devotionals and notes pages in between the planning pages to continue to give encouragement and support to you as you plan your year.
The back of the planner includes an additional section which doubles as record keeping. It includes 5 sections, one per child. There is a Journal or Notes planning page which is headed with Child (1) and gives space for a name. Next is a Curriculum Planning page where you can write the subject, grade level, and more information for gathering materials needed for your child’s courses for the year. An Attendance sheet can also be found here, as many states require attendance records be kept.
There is a Books Read This Year page, which is simple in format and easily filled in. Yearly and Semester Goals sheets are here as well. And a final page for notes, journaling, whatever you choose to use it for.
This planner is simple, but filled with all you need to plan our your school year for your family.
