Sometimes it’s easy to forget just how short life is. We are literally never promised tomorrow. This past weekend was a hard one for my husband and I.
Don and I took an afternoon for ourselves on Memorial Day. We stopped at a place we know to walk by the water, dip our feet in and enjoy some time alone. We sat on a huge rock and felt the ice cold mountain water wash over our feet as we talked. We listened to the crashing water move swiftly by. It was a beautiful afternoon together.
Five minutes later, as we walked back down the path towards our car, we saw a couple frantically flagging down everyone around. We couldn’t make out what they were saying but we quickly realized someone had fallen into the rapids, lost. My heart stopped.
I cannot discuss the events of that afternoon at this time. I can only say, hold your husbands close, love your wives, kiss your babies. Life can be over in a matter of moments. Our beautiful afternoon was shattered in a blink of an eye and a family was forever changed that day. There lives will never be the same.
I’m still trying to process it all.
