Thanksgiving is a special holiday with family. One that we greatly enjoy sharing with one another. This year it was extra special because it marked the first full year in our new home.
A year ago we were unable to find a home in our new location due to a housing shortage and we were happily camping together as a family while we searched for the perfect affordable house for our budget. Camping was a lot of fun and it taught the kids some important things about life and survival that they’d never have learned without it. I have no doubt when my children are grown with kids of their own, they’ll be able to make it through whatever life brings their way. They are the strongest kids I know.
When we found our house and our wonderful landlord, we had to wait a few weeks while some repairs were made since she had recently purchased the house. She had the bathroom remodeled and some electrical things completed and we also painted the interior at her request. (I’m thankful for a handy husband!)
The day after Thanksgiving our house was finally ready for us to move in and we left the camp life behind. Just in time, too since the beginning of December brought a mountain snowstorm with freezing temps and the campgrounds in the area were quickly shutting down.
Though we miss the campfires and smores, we have truly loved this last year in our home. And it is “home” for us, more than anywhere we’ve lived in a long time. We all agree on that.
We have had a wonderful time this past year, decorating for each holiday, making family memories that will forever live on in each of us. We have found a place that we belong, at least for now and have adapted to our new life and our new town. It’s a place that is happy and safe and enjoyable for all of us.
To commemorate our year, we had our Thanksgiving dinner fully cooked at home and enjoyed eating it together. We also had a special purchased cake with a candle to celebrate the end of our year and the beginnings we have shared with one another. It was a blessed event that we truly enjoyed in each other’s loving presence.
And we hope to look forward to another year of enjoying our home, our new friends and neighbors. We look forward to celebrating Christmas, another round of birthdays, homeschooling and life together this coming year. We look forward to creating another year of memories and happiness in our home.
We hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving with your family as well.
Until next time…
Dana
